Translation vs Transcreation: What's the Difference?

What is a Translation?

Translation is a language conversion process. It is the process of converting one language to another language.

Translation can be done by human translators or machine translators. Machine translators are more popular and widely used than human translators because they are more accurate, fast and inexpensive.

What is Transcreation?

Transcreation is translating text from one language to another while preserving its meaning, style, and tone. It is used when an accurate translation of the original text is impossible. Transcreation can be defined as a hybrid between Translation and creativity. Writers who employ this technique often rely on the cultural context to create a unique version of the content.

What is Translation, and how does this affect Transcreation?

Transcreation is more complex than Translation because it requires the translator to understand both cultures and languages. Transcreation can be seen as a form of localization, as it requires an understanding of cultural nuances to be successful.

Translators need to have an in-depth knowledge of the cultures they are translating for, which means they need to know about the history, geography, and social customs of the two countries involved.

What is Transcreation, and why should you use it for your next marketing campaign?

Transcreation often comes up when two cultures or languages are involved in marketing campaigns. A creative strategy in marketing and advertising, transcreation, will help you reach your target audience by translating your message into their language, which can be done through various means.

The process of translating content is challenging, as it requires translators to understand the cultural nuances and subtleties that are difficult to convey in words. Translators must also consider the cultural values, norms, and beliefs that may differ from their own.

What are the Pros & Cons of Translation & Transcreation

Pros:

-Translation is a faster way to convert text from one language to another.

-It is cheaper than Transcreation because it involves less work and has less potential for error.

-Translators are usually more skilled than transcribers because they need to understand both languages to translate.

Cons:

-Translating words that have different meanings in two languages can be complex and confusing for readers who know both languages.

-The translator may need more knowledge about the subject matter to translate it into the target language accurately.
